A little poster inspired by some of the footage from BBC’s The Secret Life of the Cat

The angle of the under chin footage of the cats amused me and I thought it would make an awesome postery type thing.

I thought I’d try something new..

I want to make a nice illustration but using traditional paints, but I find it easier to compose an image digitally because of the ease of moving and redrawing elements. So I printed and traced my sketch so I can attempt a gouache painting. (as opposed to my usual method of drawing in pencil, scanning and tracing digitally :P)

The magic of reference. The top image is my initial sketch all from my head, getting my idea down in front of me. The second is when I start to develop it and hunt out the references I need to make it happen. (Including actually LOOKING at a pickup truck…)

Because I am incapable of not having some kind of big project on the side, here begins another illustration piece. This time for a book (and I believe there’s a film…). Kudos to those who can figure it out.

This is how crap is going down in the universe I’m building from Fanpro doodles.

There’s no magic, no crazy cyborgs or magical girls. Just 2 girls who share a flat, and one of them has an annoying little sister who just won’t leave.

Any of my designs and stories can be drawn or written about by anyone interested in fanpro without permission. That’s the point of Fanpro.

I have also added a #fanpro tag to my links list so that people can browse this story I’m building.

If any people who are also following fanpro are interested in working together on this down to earth canon (perhaps with a few character designs of your own) feel free to speak up and send designs my way. I can’t gaurentee I’ll work with something, but if something sparks my interest things could happen. Collaboration and fun times.

I think the problem with fanpro right now is that because there’s no set canon it’s hard to really get attached to the characters like you can with anything with a canon

I know that with this the fandom is supposed to take care of that, like it’s obviously very possible because background ponies and fantrolls definitely have a solid fanonization, it’s just harder for fanpro because there’s not that initial canon to build from

I’m sure it’ll cease being a problem in due time it’s just a big initial hurdle for the fandom to get over before it’s smooth sailing

For me that’s where the creatives come into it. Instead of a fandom just sitting back going “headcanon: XXXX is really shy/loves to sing/is a demon etc” actually start to build a world based upon this. Write a fic or a comic, not just another character standing still design drawing..

Headcanons are great ideas, but don’t wait for someone else to make that idea come true, do it yourself and maybe headcanon will become fanon and that will drive the fanpro.

So I found out about Fanpro (see link for details) and was interested in the idea of using those basic sketches to come up with characters of your own.

I clicked on character design 30, and someone had mentioned how 30 and 10 could be sisters, and so.. I drew 10 and 30 as sisters Denize and Thriza. I tried to take ideas from the original doodles but rework it for me as they were a bit crazy anime (still are a little.. XD

Maybe I’ll actually do something with these sisters.. maybe they’ll just stay a doodle.. but I got a picture out of it anyway ^^
